Principal's Message

Mr. Tom Martin

Principal

Tom Martin has been the Principal at Byrd School for the past seven years. Prior to that, he taught physical education in District 111 for twelve years and served as Assistant Principal at Kennedy School. Mr. Martin holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Francis. Mr. Martin is eager to make the transition to Burbank School and looks forward to getting acquainted with the students, faculty, staff, and community members.

School Board Update

Dear Burbank SD 111 Families & Staff:

School board election winners, Gregory Komperda, Agnieszka Dabrowski, John Schuetz, and Jeniz Greene, took the Oath of Office and the board reorganized at the April 23 board meeting.

Stickney Township Offers Pre-School and Summer Programs

Stickney Township Youth Commission offers Summer Programs for children age 3-8 and Preschool for children age 3 and 4 in the fall. Programs are available to residents of Stickney Township.

Preschool Screening

Families interested in enrolling new students in District 111’s Preschool Program for the 2025–26 school year should sign up for our Preschool Screening Day on May 21. During this screening, we will assess new preschool-aged children who will be three years old by August 2025. If you have a child - or know someone with a child - who meets this age requirement and is interested in our Early Learning Program, please sign-up by May 9.

2025-2026 PASS Registration

Registration for returning PASS families will open online - end of May. Registration for new PASS families will open online - end of July.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced the over 500 Illinoisans honored for their extraordinary contributions to education across the state through its annual Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Awards. The awardees announced today include Burbank School District’s Sarah Nesci, Teacher at Kennedy School!
